BW Gold Ltd. (BW Gold) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Artemis Gold Inc (Artemis). Artemis is listed on the TSX Venture exchange, and is a well-financed, growth-oriented gold development company with strong financial capacity aimed at creating shareholder value through the identification, acquisition, and development of gold properties in mining friendly jurisdictions. Artemis, by way of BW Gold, is the proponent of the Blackwater Gold Project in central British Columbia, approximately 160 km southwest of Prince George and 446 km northeast of Vancouver.

You will have the ability to make a significant contribution to shaping the Environmental function. Blackwater is an advanced-stage mine development project which received its environmental assessment approvals in 2019 and is proceeding towards permitting, with the goal of commencing construction in 2022. The Company published a feasibility study in September 2021 which reflects proven and probably reserves of 8Moz of gold at 0.78g/t, a low strip ratio of 2:1 and a net present value of C$2.15B at a long-term gold price of US$1,600.
Location of Position
To start, you will be based in your home office with some travel to the Blackwater Project, which is 165 km Southwest of Prince George, BC. Regular travel between the Project site, regional offices, the corporate head office in Vancouver and your home office will be required.
The current stage of development of the Project is currently not conducive to a regular rotation schedule and therefore for the remainder of 2021 and the first part of 2022, you will work a standard work week, wherever required. Once the project is more advanced, you will transition to a 2 week on 2 week off rotation from your office to the project site. The exact date of this switch will be agreed upon between you and the Environmental Manager.
Scope of Responsibilities
The responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to the following:
- Be the main point of contact for the environment department with site operational department Superintendents and Managers and oversee and supervise the day-to-day construction activities of the environment team and consultants.
- Act in the capacity of a 2IC (second in command) in the absence of the Environmental Manager on site.
- Accountability of water, waste, wildlife, reclamation, and aquatic health monitoring programs (e.g., fisheries, environmental effects monitoring, land disturbance and biodiversity management), including work plan development, scheduling, lead field programs, data assimilation, interpretation, and drafting reports.
- Mentoring and coaching of Environmental field crews and consultants to ensure completion of field programs (including mentoring of strong field data collection skills).
- Complete compliance audits against permit/licence requirements and social obligations
- Take on a champion role with the development and implementation of an EMS in conformance with permit requirements and ISO 14001.
- Assist with preparation of permit applications and track approvals, or amendments as required
- Involvement in leading preparation and execution of regulatory reporting (quarterly, annual).
- Education and coaching of permit terms and conditions to all operating departments and how they relate to monitoring programs and reporting.
- Commitment to Health & Safety and Cultural Awareness programs.
- Coordinate health and safety requirements (contractor/consultant) for implementing field programs, including spending time directly in the field as required
- Familiarity with relevant BC and federal legislation and regulations (e.g., Environmental management Act, Mines Act, HSRC, Fisheries Act)
- Take an active role in budgeting, cost management and site and corporate reporting activities
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or a related Natural Resources Management field
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience, preferably in a mining environment with experience leading and supervising teams accountable for monitoring and compliance programs
- Strong technical writing and data analysis skills
- Current registration or eligible for registration in a professional discipline (e.g., EP, P.Ag, R.P.Bio.)
- Experience with off-road vehicles (e.g., snowmobiles, ATV’s/UTV’s, boats), BC Mines’ Supervisor certification and Occupational first aid are considered strong assets
