Environmental Technician - September 19, 2022

BW Gold Ltd. is a subsidiary of Artemis Gold Inc., listed on the TSX Venture exchange, a well-financed, growth-oriented gold development company aimed at creating shareholder value through the identification, acquisition, and development of gold properties in mining friendly jurisdictions. Our current focus is the recently acquired Blackwater Gold Project in central British Columbia approximately 160km southwest of Prince George and 450km northeast of Vancouver.

This is an excellent opportunity for you to join an entrepreneurial organization with strong financials and depth of experience that is focused on technical excellence without the bureaucracy of larger firms. You will have the ability to make a significant contribution to the project team as the Company pursues the disciplined development of the Blackwater Project. Blackwater is an advanced-stage development project which received its environmental assessment approvals in 2019 and is proceeding towards permitting, with the goal of commencing major construction in fall 2022. The Company published a Feasibility Study in September 2021 which reflects a 22-year mine life, a low strip ratio of 2:1 and a net present value of C$2.15B at a long-term consensus gold price of US$1,600/oz.

Reporting to the Environmental Manager and/or Environmental Superintendent, the Environmental Technician will work a 2 week on, 2 week off rotational schedule, based out of the Blackwater mine site (165 km Southwest of Prince George, BC).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DELIVERABLES:

  • Lead on-site environmental field programs (i.e., environmental monitoring, erosion and sediment control, surface and groundwater monitoring, sediment and sampling, wildlife surveys and monitoring etc.)
  • Participate in fish habitat compensation projects
  • Field data management and organization, including database management
  • Carry out sample preparation procedures in an on-site lab setting 
  • SOP development
  • Consultant / Contractor logistics and technical support
  • Regular boat and off-road vehicle use (e.g. snowmobiles, ATV/UTV)
  • Interact and communicate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team consisting of environmental professionals, engineers, and contractors.
  • Ensure that BW Gold environmental commitments and Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) policies are observed in all site activities. 

Skills and Experience

  • Technical diploma with an Environmental/Biological focus (e.g. Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Wildlife/Fish, Engineering)
  • 0 to 3 years of experience, preferably in a mining environment.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Physically able to travel and work in the field for extended periods in inclement weather.
  • Mechanical aptitude to use off-road vehicles and environmental monitoring equipment and to troubleshoot issues 
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite of Products
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong data management, time management and organizational skills with ability to take clear, concise and defensible field notes. 
  • Strong multi-tasking and proven ability to manage competing priorities based on site demands
  • Safety conscious, reliable, self-starter and a team player. 
  • Occupational and/or wilderness first aid, electrofishing certification, and experience with environmental databases are considered strong assets
