National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
September 29, 2023
Today, Artemis Gold and Blackwater Mine employees wear orange to mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. It is a day to commemorate the history and ongoing trauma caused by residential schools, to honour those who were lost, and to support survivors, families and communities in their healing and grief.
We acknowledge the people who were on this land long before us and whose deep and intrinsic connection to this land gives us much to learn from. We take time to reflect and to renew our commitment to learning what reconciliation means to those affected by residential schools so we can better understand their truth.
As part of Artemis Gold’s reconciliation efforts and to honour the children who never returned home as well as the survivors of residential schools, their families and communities, we have organized company-wide efforts to observe, learn and participate in the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
It is a time for us to reflect on how we, as a Canadian company, can better understand what Truth and Reconciliation means to our First Nation partners and to Indigenous People across Canada. It is a reminder for us to listen and support people as they grieve and move towards healing.
Artemis Gold is committed to maintaining relationships with the Indigenous communities near the Blackwater Mine that are built on respect, understanding and compassion.
